EBSCO Announces Intent to Acquire Relais Software Developer

EBSCO Industries, Inc. has announced a letter of intent to acquire Network Support Inc., (NSI), an Ottawa software development company. NSI developed the Relais system, the imaging and workflow product for document supply. The EBSCO subsidiary will be know as Relais International.

The Relais product evolved from the IntelliDoc system that NSI developed for the Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information (CISTI). In implementing the system in 1994, the company says that CISTI's document supply operation achieved significantly better turnaround time, increased capacity without additional resources, and expanded the range of services it can offer to its customers.

Success of the IntelliDoc project led NSI to develop the Relais product line based on these ideas. Customers of the Relais product line now include the National Library of Medicine (NLM), Linda Hall Library, MINITEX, the University of Alberta, and EBSCO Document Services. According to the company, organizations throughout the world, from small interlibrary loan (ILL) operations to major commercial document suppliers, have expressed interest in Relais.

The Relais Enterprise system, available from the Relais suite of products, is an integrated imaging and workflow system for document supply, including order management, high-quality scanning technology, and electronic document delivery.
