Whether your summer itinerary included a vacation to an exotic location or a relaxing time in your own back yard, I trust that you have enjoyed a restful summer and feel rejuvenated to begin another year of music teaching. Unlike most of the population, teachers enjoy the additional unique perspective of beginning a new teaching year in August or September. It is a time to reflect on past achievements and plan for new opportunities.

I am reminded at the start of each academic year how fortunate I am to be a music teacher. Can there be a more noble calling than to influence a student's life through the power of music? Whether a student is pursuing a career in music or simply wants to play for their own enjoyment, we have the opportunity to provide a positive influence in their lives by sharing the wonder of music.

The start of a new teaching year also offers a chance to reflect on the previous year's achievements and set new goals for personal and professional growth. …
