ALICE M.H. McGREGOR AWARD

Named in honor of one of NACM's most distinguished leaders, the Alice M.H. McGregor Award recognizes an individual whose creative approaches and consistently high performance benefit and sustain his/her company, NACM affiliate, NACM-National and the business credit profession at large. This year's recipient of the McGregor Award, Stan DeGroot, CCE, has earned the highest regard and respect from his peers based on his tireless and visionary service to the NACM organization.

DeGroot is the region controller and operations manager for WESCO Distribution, Inc., in Phoenix, Arizona. In addition to his professional responsibilities, DeGroot continues to provide his brand of quiet, thoughtful and effective leadership and has graciously taken on NACM's toughest projects--while working to understand the situation at hand and building a consensus on how to proceed.

As a mentor and well-regarded speaker, DeGroot is always giving back to the credit profession. Upon presenting the McGregor Award to DeGroot at the 2009 Credit Congress, current NACM-National Chairman Dave Beckel, CCE, noted,"People simply meet Stan's standards and expectations because he inspires them to do more than they can, to reach deeper than they thought they could and to excel further than they ever imagined possible."

NATIONAL CREDIT EXECUTIVE OF THE YEAR AWARD

The National Credit Executive of the Year Award recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions to the credit profession at the national level. Volunteer leadership is an essential core attribute for award recipients. A dedication to lifelong learning and the dogged pursuit of education are also essential factors and may be represented by attending conferences, seminars or programs. The National Credit Executive of the Year must be held in high esteem by his/her peers.

The 2009 honoree, David Watson, CCE, who has been affiliated with NACM for more than four decades, is a dedicated and indefatigable volunteer leader. His service to the organization and, by turn, the profession includes an 11-year tenure on the NACM-National Board of Directors, which culminated in a stint as national chairman in 1995-1996. More recently, Watson has been an integral part of the Bankruptcy Work Group that keeps track of ongoing federal bankruptcy reform efforts. In addition to his service on the national level, Watson is also an active presence on the affiliate level, where he currently chairs the NACM Southwest Board of Directors, his third term in this role. Watson previously guided the affiliate board in 1985 and in 1986-1987. He was honored as the NACM Southwest Credit Executive of the Year in 1986 and as the NACM Southern Region Credit Executive of the Year in 1991.

Watson is the vice president/credit manager for Olmsted-Kirk Paper Company of Dallas where he revised Olmsted-Kirk's credit policy, which now requires that new departmental employees complete NACM's Credit Administration Program (CAP).

DESIGNATION OF EXCELLENCE AWARDS

NACM created the Designation of Excellence Awards to honor a designation holder at each level: the Credit Business Associate (CBA), Credit Business Fellow (CBF) and Certified Credit Executive (CCE). Each honoree must have an unrelenting pursuit of excellence and the desire to share that knowledge through speaking, teaching or mentoring.

A basic objective motivated Erin Doll, CBA to add continuing education to her already full plate of work, family and church-related responsibilities: "I decided it was worth it because I wanted to become a better employee. I wanted to understand why I was doing what I was doing," she explained. Doll, the 2009 CBA Designation of Excellence Award honoree, brings more than 10 years experience to her position as credit supervisor for Mountain State Supply, a Salt Lake City-based materials supplier for the plumbing, waterworks, irrigation and landscaping industries. …
