'Austin Chronicle' Columnist Charged with Arson

The society and fashion columnist for the alt-weekly Austin (Texas) Chronicle has been charged with allegedly setting fire to his roommate's car in the City Hall parking garage.

According to an account posted on the Web site of the Austin American-Statesman Thursday, columnist Stephen MacMillan Moser was arrested at his home Tuesday afternoon for the March 13 incident.

American-Statesman staff writer Patrick George reported Moser was taken into custody when police forced entry into his home. He was being held in Travis County Jail in Texas with bail set at $15,000.

According to authorities, Austin firefighters dispatched to the parking garage at about 5:20 a.m. found a black Toyota Supra on fire. The car was later determined to belong to the Nicholas Hill, Moser's roommate of five months.

Police say on the night of the fire, Moser and friends attended several events, including the Texas Film Hall of Fame awards. Hill and Moser returned to the car at the parking lot, and got into an argument, with Hill telling Moser he was too drunk to drive. …
