EPpy Awards Finalists: 'Boston Globe' Tops in Newspaper Sites

Article excerpt

The Web site of the Boston Globe, the newspaper whose future is the subject of many newspaper headlines of late, has placed five entries among the finalists in the 2009 EPpy Awards, which are sponsored by Editor & Publisher and Mediaweek magazines.

AOL made the top showing by one company with multiple EPpy-nominated properties. Its BloggingStocks.com, Engadget.com, PopEater.com, Urlesque.com, Moviefone.com and FanHouse.com all received nods.

EPpy winners will be announced at the annual Interactive Newspaper Conference and Trade Show in New Orleans on May 7.

Boston.com features were chosen by the judges as finalists in Best Sports Blog, Best News and Politics Blog, Best Community Web site and Best Entertainment Web Site (two finalists).

In all, 97 finalists were named in 32 categories, including one new category: The Best Consumer Electronics Blog.

Other notable media companies with multiple EPpy finalists include The New York Times, CNN and the Las Vegas Sun with four finalists each. USA Today, Business Week, The Wall Street Journal, The Arizona Daily Star and NPR each placed two finalists in the competition.

The 2009 EPpy Awards mark the 14th consecutive year of the program, which honors the best Web sites in the media world, including newspapers, TV-cable, radio and magazines. You can read more about the EPpy Awards at www.eppyawards.com.

The EPpy Awards will be presented at an awards luncheon at the Interactive Media Conference and Trade Show at the Astor Crowne Plaza in New Orleans on Thursday, May 7, 2009.
