King Features Salutes Former Columnist Cronkite

King Features Wednesday saluted former CBS anchor Walter Cronkite, who wrote a series of columns for the syndicate between August 2003 and August 2004.

"He made my job as his editor the greatest in editorial journalism," King Features Managing Editor Glenn Mott said in a statement released Wednesday.

Cronkite, the former anchor of the CBS Evening News who died Friday at age 92, agreed to write a syndicated column for King because of his concern over "our bellicose military policy; our arrogant foreign policy; our domestic security policy that threatens our freedom of speech, press, and person; and our financial policy that many if not most economists believethreatens a national deficit deep into this century," according to a statement he made in June 2003.

"He's seen many of the major events of the past century -- and probablyknown every president since Franklin Roosevelt," Mott told E&P Online when Cronkite's column was announced. "He has historical perspective and credibility. …
