The Mike Tyson of TV news may have met his Evander Holyfield. After biting the hand that just fed him a $36 million contract, Geraldo Rivera last week recanted impolitic remarks about NBC News and a certain powerful colleague. In a TV Guide interview, Rivera claims that promos for his CNBC program "Rivera Live" don't air during "Nightly News" because Tom Brokaw banned them. Not content with his wide-ranging new reporting and anchoring duties, he also seems to be gunning for Brokaw's job, saying he's "in the running for the center chair at the desk of the wise men." (This may come as news to MSNBC anchor Brian Williams, who is being groomed as Brokaw's successor.) Brokaw wouldn't comment. But a day after these quotes leaked, the reformed trash-talk impresario--on a bid for legitimacy ever since he started wearing glasses on air--issued a statement: "Tom Brokaw is a great newsman who does a terrific job and the rivalry between us is grossly overstated. …
