Partnering for Success

As I began doing research for this month's issue, I was incredibly impressed by the creativity and business smarts that my fellow art professionals are applying to not only survive, but thrive, in this volatile economy. By taking a good, hard look at their businesses, many savvy artists and gallery owners are turning to out-of-the-box partnerships for continued success.

Complementary businesses ranging from high-end furniture retailers and restaurants to local arts and business organizations have been on the receiving end of these partnerships that have not only helped gallery owners increase visibility and overall exposure, but have also opened the doors for new collectors who might have otherwise never visited a gallery. The business transformations I've witnessed as a result of these creative collaborations have blown me away, so much so, that we've dedicated an entire business feature to the subject matter ("The Power of Partnerships," page 24) with the hopes that our readers will be inspired to give one of the suggested partnerships a try, or better yet, devise one of their own to best fit the needs of their specific markets.

I think guest columnist David W. Streets put it best in his Business Sense article (page 38) when describing the multitude of partnership opportunities available to gallery owners who are plugged into their communities.

"The best thing about the partnerships I've formed: There are plenty morel So, the next time you're think ing of hosting an event, take a look around your community, think of the luxury business owners you know and respect, and work to make something happen. …
