If you thought the mission of the Department of Housing and Urban Development basically was to help provide affordable housing for disadvantaged Americans, boy, has Secretary Andrew Cuomo got a surprise for you! Now, HUD has found a way to get inside everybody's home -- disadvantaged, advantaged or just hanging in there -- with a scary message from the presumably politically ambitious Cuomo. Joining the legions of other federal bureaucracies that stick their noses into what we do and how we do it, HUD will be spending beaucoup tax dollars on TV and newspaper ads and brochures crusading against "improperly wired outlets that can electrocute, watercoolers that can burn, lead paint that can poison, household cleaners that can kill."

And don't forget guns. HUD's new "Healthy Homes" campain also advises "locking, up guns and rifles and keeping them unloaded."
