Recession's over! Says Who?

The U.S.'s gross domestic product rose 3.5% in the third quarter--representing the largest three-month gain in two years and ending four consecutive negative quarters--so, by the technical definition, the recession officially is over. However, for some consumers, particularly those still out of work, the recession may be far from finished on a personal level. The Association of Independent Consumer Credit Counseling Agencies, Fairfax, Va., encourages consumers to evaluate their own personal finances to determine where they stand in regards to the recession.

"As the overall economic picture improves, personal finances may not always follow suit," acknowledges Dave Jones, president of AICCCA, which provides the following five signs the recession has ended for you:

You ate gainfully employed and not living paycheck to paycheck. Your job is secure and you can afford your mortgage or rent payment each month as well as all of your other obligations. …
