"Universalism and Regionalism in the Early 21st Century" was the central theme of the most recent course in international law organized by the Inter-American Juridical Committee and the International Law Department of the OAS Secretariat for Legal Affairs.

The courses, held in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro, are among the most prestigious academic events in the world on international law and have been held annually since 1974.

This year, the three week course covered a variety of topics in international public and private law with a special emphasis on topics related to the current regional and international situation.

Teachers included such world-renown experts in international law as International Court of Justice member Antonio Angusto Cancado Trindade; members of the Inter-American Juridical Committee; and professors from various universities in the region and from Europe (for example, Paulo Borba Casella from Brazil and Jorge Cardona from Spain); as well as specialists from the OAS General Secretariat like Jean-Michel Arrighi, among others. …
