- Why is Jones in the news?

Department-store chain Debenhams has confirmed that its marketing director, Ali Jones, is leaving the company to take up a marketing role at rival Arcadia Group. She has spent about six years as the top marketer at Debenhams, during which time she oversaw an advertising review that resulted in the appointment of JWT. She also launched Debenhams' brand-led TV ad campaign in the run-up to Christmas, its first after a two-year absence from screens.

- What will she face in her new job?

Jones is understood to be taking the position of group marketing director at Arcadia and will work under high-profile boss Sir Philip Green. Last year, he announced plans to merge his Bhs stores with the Arcadia Group to make the business more efficient. The decision relates to the cost of store space in city centres, with some of Arcadia's 200-300 Evans, Burtons, Dorothy Perkins and Wallis outlets being moved into Bhs stores.

Jones will oversee this process and, as the daughter of former Next and JJB Sports chairman David Jones, she has the pedigree to give Green sound advice. …
