Since the launch of its flagship network in 1985, Discovery Communications has been committed to making a positive impact in the lives of viewers, both on the screen and beyond. In addition to the mission-driven nonfiction content at its core, Discovery is committed to leading in corporate citizenship, inspiring viewers with on-air messages, promoting and practicing sustainability for the planet, supporting lifelong learning, partnering with nonprofit organizations, giving back to local communities, helping employees thrive at work and growing a diverse and successful industry.

The cornerstone of these efforts is the Discovery Channel Global Education Partnership (DCGEP), a public nonprofit organization dedicated to harnessing the power of television in under-resourced schools around the world to improve student learning, teacher effectiveness, access to information and community involvement in the schools.

Launched in 1997, DCGEP applies a unique and sustainable approach for bringing information to underserved communities through learning centers, which are locally managed, television-based media hubs, located primarily in existing schools and equipped to meet an area's educational needs.
