MCA Management Awards 2010: Recognising the Value of Consultancy

Article excerpt

Congratulations to all the winners, highly commended entries and shortlisted companies for this year's MCA Awards. Management consultancy is under the spotlight more than ever this year, so it is terrific to see so many top-class firms entering the awards and to celebrate the extraordinary achievements of consultants and clients working together.

The Management Consultancies Association is changing the national conversation about consulting. We are spreading the message that consulting generates value - in many cases, substantial value. Instead of seeing consulting just as a cost of doing business, more and more executives are now recognising that, when used appropriately, consulting is an investment capable of generating significant returns for their organisation.

Many of the case studies among this year's award-winners illustrate this point perfectly. They show that high-quality consulting delivers strong results, solves complex problems and generates innovative and technically powerful ideas.

The result? More profitable enterprises; more successful companies; better public services. That's why we call consulting 'a positive force for the economy'.

But there can be no room for complacency. The industry is emerging from a downturn; we need to make sure that the next few years deliver a rising reputation as well as a growing order book.

The MCA's Code of Practice is now established as the benchmark for quality in the consulting industry. I hope that both clients and consultancies will increasingly use the Code as the focus for their dialogue about standards and performance. And we are working closely with individual government departments and throughout the public sector to ensure that the contribution of consultancy is better understood, appreciated and communicated.

These awards demand a lot of hard work and I would like to thank the excellent MCA team, our splendid judges and our partners at Management Today and Haymarket.

As always at the MCA, we are determined to continue moving forward. The 2011 Awards will be even bigger and better and will include many of the best elements of our existing Consultant of the Year awards as well Look out for all the details in the next few weeks.
