Mysterious Blooms

Article excerpt

As a painter, the end result has to be a mystery to me when I start out. My work is about a gradual unfolding--I have to start with an emotion or visual trigger, a personal connection to the tangible world, and as I paint I learn how I see and what I see. These objects are often freighted with poetry and symbolism, and I am dealing with all of this in the very confined space of the rectangle of canvas I am working on.
