Around the Way: Cassette Playa Flexes Tough Girl Power for Stussy

Designer Carri Munden grew up in Worthing on the south coast of England, and describes her teenage look as "a bit goth, a bit metal, a bit chav--kind of weird." For her 15th birthday, she went to Holland for the first time and was instantly drawn to the gabber girls with their razor undercuts and baggy pants. Her new women's collection for Stussy might skew more Salt-N-Pepa, with skintight mini-dresses and tube tops, but the designer of Cassette Playa always creates with that rough and tumble tomboy in mind.

To prepare for the collaboration, Munden was given unlimited access to an archive chockablock with 25 years of iconic imagery. Strewn with achingly cute skater boys and uplifting one-world-one-love mantras, the Stussy vaults provided her with endless taglines and images for the collection. "I remember seeing them in The Face magazine when I was a kid," says the London-based designer. …
