The Hotel Healdsburg team is gearing up for the July 1 opening of a more casual, more eco (and less pricey!) spin-off down the block. H2hotel replaces the traditional room service and spa with loaner Dutch cruising bikes and an all-purpose "Receptobar" for checking in, caffeinating, and stocking your own fridge. Star mixologist Scott Beattie mans the bar, whipping up cocktails with fresh ingredients like citrus plucked from the hotel's living roof. A speakeasy for wine lovers

The lack of a real wine bar has always been a puzzling quirk about Healdsburg. This spring, the town got one, just off the plaza, but hid it behind an innocuous-looking shop. Push through the back of an antique phone booth in the corner, though, and you enter Prohibition, a '20s-style joint with a tommy gun behind the bar, Jazz Age greats on the stereo, papered-over windows, and a list of wines, plus wine cocktails like Bubbles LaRue and the Bogart Breeze. …
