Run for Your Life! Hershey's Track and Field Games Promote Health and Fitness

DID YOU KNOW RUNNING IS COOL AGAIN? With America's youth so focused on social media, video games, screen time and the like, it's refreshing to know that the popularity of track and field games is growing. In the present economic environment, participation in sports which require expensive equipment has compelled kids to explore the benefits of running. As a low-cost, effective tool for getting kids off the couch and engaged in physical activity, Hershey's Track and Field Games can be seen throughout parks and recreation, schools, and local community groups. Each year, Hershey's Track and Field Games seeks to introduce youth in local communities to the overarching benefits surrounding track and field. Not only is it fun, competitive, and a great use of physical activity to assist in combating childhood obesity (understanding the energy balance between food intake and output), Hershey's Track and Field Games create camaraderie amongst competitors, lifelong friendships, and enhance self-esteem.

NRPA and Hershey's Track and Field Games have worked collaboratively over the past 30 years to bring youth from across the country to the North American Final, which takes place each summer in Hershey, Pennsylvania. …
