FOLLOWING ON THE SUCCESS OF the past two years, the 2010 African Business Awards, once again, did not disappoint. Gathering together a now traditional mix of elite African business experts, political leaders, influential Western financial representatives and global media, this year's event at London's prestigious Grosvenor House hotel was also graced by the presence of two eminent African Prime Ministers--Philemon Yang of Cameroon and Togo's Gilbert Fossoun Houngbo.

Over 500 guests attended the plush gala dinner and awards ceremony on 21 June, which saw Jubril Adewale Tinubu, Chief Executive of Oando Plc (Nigeria) take home the Business Leader of the Year award, while the coveted African Business of the Year award went to Citadel Capital of Egypt. (See box for full list of winners.)

Co-hosted by IC Publications, publishers of African Business magazine and the Commonwealth Business Council (CBC), the African Business Awards not only honour Africa's movers and shakers in the business world, but also provide a rare and exciting platform for the most successful business people and entrepreneurs in Africa to meet and share their thoughts and ideas on common business issues and opportunities.

"The Awards were even more significant this year, having taken place during the World Cup, which was successfully hosted by South Africa and thus resonates with the new optimism about Africa as a continent capable of realising the opportunities that abound there," said Omar Ben Yedder, publisher of African Business magazine and managing director of IC Events, the department at IC Publications organising the awards. …
