CDGK Finance and Planning Executive District Officer Naila Wajid presented the budget books and relevant documents to Rehman, which he approved in the form of a Council Resolution.

He said the budget allocations for different sectors were made on equal basis and the education and health sectors received maximum allocations. No new tax was imposed and hefty allocations have been reserved for the development works in the city, he added.

According to the budget documents, the total receipts of CDGK during the fiscal year 2010-2011 have been expected to stand at Rs53.958 billion, while the total expenditure has been estimated at Rs53.874 billion, leaving an amount of Rs84.38 million as surplus.

The Revenue Department has been given the topmost slot in the revenue generation list with expectations to collect Rs7.648 billion in 2010-2011.

Grants and releases from the Sindh government were Rs5.981 billion, while the total dues of the defunct Karachi Municipal Corporation and Karachi Development Authority against the Karachi Electric Supply Company were Rs1.983 billion.

The other major revenue sources included Rs1.512 billion from the Municipal Services, Rs1.266 billion from Master Plan, Rs1 billion from Karachi Building Control Authority as transfer of income, Rs805.33 million from Works and Services, Rs814.92 million from Finance and Planning, Rs567.30 million from Enterprise and Investment Promotion, Rs 135.55 million from Coordination, Rs 1 29.10 million from Transport and Communication, Rs85. …
