"Sustainable Santee" Opens 15-Acre Sports Complex Santee, California

In September, the City of Santee kicked off the opening of Sportsplex USA Santee with ball games on synthetic fields and a bluegrass concert and festival on the grand lawn. The complex, designed for local and regional adult sports leagues and tournaments, sports camps, high school and college games and special events, is expected to draw more than 350,000 visitors annually.

"Sustainable Santee" is the moniker on the municipal website of the San Diego suburb, and the sports complex offers several innovative, eco-friendly features. Three ball fields and two soccer arenas incorporate synthetic turf and all landscaping is served by reclaimed water from Padre Dam Municipal Water District. The restaurant is also equipped with a solar power system.

The complex's 15 acres, nestled within the 55-acre Town Center Community Park, contain an impressive list of facilities: three lighted softball fields, four batting cages, two lighted arena soccer fields, spectator seating, parking facilities, and a sports-themed restaurant. …
