Tesco Expands Clubcard Deals with E.ON Bill Trial

Tesco is taking steps to create deeper relationships with its Clubcard partner brands to meet what it says is consumer demand for greater money-saving deals.

Last week, the retailer announced an expansion of its 13-year-old deal with energy provider E.ON. Where previously consumers could earn Clubcard points on their E.ON bill payments, they will now be able to use Clubcard Vouchers to pay energy bills.

Under the terms of the scheme, 50% will be added to the value of the vouchers, meaning pounds 10-worth of Clubcard points can be used to pay pounds 15 of an energy bill. The deal will be trialled until 5 August with a view to extending if both brands consider it successful.

However, the trial currently excludes E.ON's StayWarm, WarmAssist and Age UK tariffs, as well as customers using pre-pay meters.

Tesco Clubcard director Janet Smith said the offer is likely to be the first of several deals with partners, which include PizzaExpress, Cineworld, Cafe Rouge, Goldsmiths and Hilton Hotels.

'We are always looking to expand the ways in which our customers can get the most out of their Clubcard and new partners are a great way to do that,' added Smith. 'Customers are telling us at the moment that budgets are tight, and saving money on the essential household spend is a great help. …
