A special session of the OAS General Assembly recently passed a resolution ending the suspension of Honduras' right to participate in the organization. The resolution emphasized Article 22 of the Inter-American Democratic Charter, which establishes that the suspension of a member state can be lifted once the situation that caused the suspension has been resolved.

The resolution, approved by a 32-1 vote, "immediately lifts" the suspension of membership imposed on Honduras in July 2009 following the coup d'etat that ousted then-President Jose Manuel Zelaya.

"The time has come to heal wounds," said Honduran Vice President Maria Antonieta Guillen de Bogran after the approval of the resolution. She said that her country has emerged stronger from this "dark chapter" of its history. …
