A medal from the James Beard Awards, the Oscars of the food world, might seem like an unusual honor for an advertising shop.

But Love and War, a four-year-old, seven-person branding boutique, took one home last month for its graphic design work on celebrity chef Geoffrey Zakarian's New York restaurant, The National (which served as the setting for Adweek's photo shoot). love and War worked on just about every detail of the restaurant's launch--from making the place feet like a friendly neighborhood haunt (in an area filled with stuffy dining rooms), to its website, to its menus, napkins, and even its coasters.

The piece de resistance: A National-branded bicycle, complete with wooden crate for shopping, imported from Amsterdam and parked next to the hostess station. "The bike signals connectivity to markets and fresh ingredients," explains creative director and partner Eng San Kho (r.). Plus, it helps with the ambiance.
