Since my high school days in Toronto I have been an avid amateur photographer. As my income increased, so did the quality of cameras I owned--culminating in a series of Nikons. However, the image of train tracks at Battle, UK, in the contents section of the QQ was shot with a relatively inexpensive point-and-shoot Panasonic. Ultimately, it is the photograph, not the camera, that counts. For reasons unknown to me, I am attracted to the symmetry of train tracks and the illusion of them coming closer together as they disappear into the horizon. That, coupled with a fascination for old buildings and abandoned rail cars, inspired this set of photos.

The Battle image was taken on a trip to the Bader International Centre this year. Our annual trips to Tanglewood in the Berkshire Mountains have regularly been combined with a trip to Weston, Vermont, to see summer stock at the Weston Playhouse. …
