Dear Readers,

2011 has been an exhilarating year of change at American Forests, and we are thrilled to unveil some of our new work in this issue of our magazine: our new togo, more photos, a wider variety of articles, and a cleaner took. The magazine continues to offer information and perspective on policy issues, science-based insights on major ecosystem challenges, and news briefs addressing current projects and events. We also intend to exptore more thoroughly the wealth of opportunities that forests offer, from economic and environmental benefits to recreation, health, and peace of mind to bring you these new features in a timely manner, we have made a slight adjustment to our publication schedule. This year we decided to forego our traditional summer issue to bring you an autumn issue that will reach you m the middle of the season rather than ctoser to its end. To continue the process of better timing our issues, the winter issue will arrive in early 2012. These changes reflect our magazine's reinvigorated mission to bring you the best in conservation news, as well as our organization's mission to protect and restore forests and to help preserve the health of our planet for the benefit of its inhabitants. …
