According to the Chinese calendar, 2011 was the Year of the Rabbit. Aside from being cuddly creatures and possible FFA projects, rabbits symbolize rebirth--hence their association with spring and Easter. Ironically, I think this same symbolism holds true for the Association for Career and Technical Education (AGTE).

This past year AGTE, and career and technical education (CTE) as a whole, had to address some critical issues. We had funding battles on Capitol Hill. We saw major movement in the Common Core initiative. We heard business and industry discuss training deficiencies and the difficulties they have finding the right employees.

As these issues came up, however, what we saw was a rebirth--a pride--in what we do as career and technical educators. Wc mobilized around the funding issues and shared our viewpoint with our federal legislators. We encouraged our business partners to do the same. We met with the media to share the impact GTE has on both students and the workforee. We made a difference!
