Municipal Proud: LPGA Golfer Danah Bordner on Her Sporting Roots

MAKING THE ROUNDS AS A ROOKIE on the LPGA tour this year was Danah Bordner, daughter of Denny Ford, PGA professional and director of golf at the Pleasant Run Golf Course and Sarah Shank Golf Course in the Indy Parks system in Indianapolis, Indiana. Bordner recalls growing up practicing and playing at "The Run," retrieving her own balls in between holes, and finding open spots to chip and putt. She worked at Pleasant Run in the summers, helping out wherever she was needed. She would also play with whomever arrived on the first tee.

"I was fortunate to be introduced to golf at a young age, but didn't begin to take it seriously until high school," Bordner says. "It was then I realized I could work hard at a sport I loved and potentially earn a college scholarship. The individuality drew me to the game and growing up around a PGA professional helped me appreciate the honor and great tradition synonymous with golf."

Bordner says she is still proud of the abundance of great municipal golf courses in Indianapolis. …
