The firefighters at Delta-Cardiff Fire Company do not believe themselves to be heroic, but to the people of Peach Bottom Township, heroes they are. The firemen received the Animal Rescue Award from the York-Adams Chapter of the American Red Cross for their efforts in saving a family Labrador trapped in a home that was ablaze.

"We're all very modest people," said one of the award's recipients, Jeff Griffith, the company's fire chief. "We're just there lo help out in the community as volunteers. We're very grateful when our work is recognized."

In addition to Griffith, the award went to Daniel Blake; John Dooley; John Dooley, Jr.; Thomas Gray, Jr.; Shawn Howard; John Molunhauser; and George Schruefer.

York Dispatch reports, "In May, their fire company responded to a fire on Juniper Road in Peach Bottom Township. The family had evacuated the home. As firefighters worked to put out flames, they found the family's black Labrador retriever in the master bedroom, Griffith recalled. …
