American Forests & IKEA Plant Two-Millionth Tree

IKEA HAS BEEN A DEDICATED conservation partner of American Forests for more than a decade. The IKEA partnership has grown over the years and enabled millions of consumers to take positive environmental action by supporting Global ReLeaf tree plantings to restore forest ecosystems.

This April, IKEA will plant its two millionth tree with American Forests! As we celebrate this milestone, let's take a look back at the work that this great partnership has done:

1998 - First Christmas tree-recycling program: 19.497 trees recycled in the first year and more than 100,000 more over the next five years.

1999 - First urban tree planting: Occurred in Baltimore with co-workers from the IKEA White Marsh store. This was the first of many urban, tree - planting projects, which would take place in cities like Los Angeles and Chicago. In every case, local IKEA stores supported the projects, and co-workers volunteered their time and energy to plant the trees.

2003 - Los Angeles store opening: 10,000 trees planted. IKEA alt funded the planting of 10,000 trees to repair damage from wildfires in national forests in the Los Angeles area. IKEA co-workers joined children from local schools on a field trip arranged by American Forests to plant the trees EA in Angeles National Forest.

2003-2004 - IKEA donated a percentage of sales from all Green Room purchases in U.S. stores: If you bought a plant at IKEA during that time, you were helping American Forests plant nearly 100,000 new trees to repair damaged forests.

2006 -The Plant a Tree program: IKEA engaged their U.S. customers by giving them the opportunity to add $1 to their purchase at checkout.Every dollar donated planted one new tree with American Forests.
