Many Ways to Get Involved with NCAD

Article excerpt

In its comparatively brief existence, the National Conference on Addiction Disorders (NCAD) has ushered in new discussions and debates for the treatment field and has even laid the groundwork for the formation of new professional groups in the addiction and recovery community. Although this year's meeting remains about five months from convening, clinical and management professionals have numerous opportunities before gathering in Orlando this fall to help shape this year's dialogue.

The conference lineup already includes an impressive diversity of speakers, such as keynote presenters Deni Carise, PhD (whose clinical improvement efforts at Phoenix House are discussed in this issue's cover story) and David Vieau of Turning Point (an innovative recovery residence for young men that was featured on the cover of our January/February 2011 issue). Visit www.ncad12.com for a complete list of session topics for the Sept. 28-Oct. 2 conference, which this year also will include a concurrent leadership summit curriculum.

If you know of a counselor, clinical manager/supervisor or addiction-focused physician who should be recognized for exemplary clinical work in this field, you could help make that person a part of this year's NCAD meeting. Addiction Professional is sponsoring its fourth annual Outstanding Clinicians. Awards; this year's winners will be featured in our July/August issue.

If you have not previously nominated a co-worker or colleague for innovative efforts in patient care, make this the year to share the admired individual's story with us. Winners will be honored during a special presentation at NCAD. Visit www.addictionpro.com to fill out a nomination form; the deadline for submitting nominations for the Outstanding Clinicians Awards is May 25.
