Irene Lewis of SAIT Polytechnic to Receive EXCEL Award

IABC has named Irene Lewis, president and CEO of SAIT Polytechnic in Calgary, Alberta, its 2012 Excellence in Communication Leadership (EXCEL) Award winner. The association's highest award given to a non-member, the EXCEL Award recognizes individuals who exhibit strong leadership in fostering excellence in organizational communication. Contributions to communication include achievements such as initiating, directing, supporting or sustaining outstanding communication programs. Lewis was scheduled to accept the award at the IABC World Conference in Chicago.

"Irene has not only set the management direction and strategic vision for SAG, she has motivated 2,300 employees to translate that strategic direction into reality," said Priya Bates, chair of the EXCEL committee. "She has also mobilized a vast community of supporters--students, alumni, industry partners and government funders-through her superior communication skills and her commitment to sharing and shaping the SAIT story. The selection committee appreciated Irene's commitment to communication and her impact on SAIT's reputation and growth. She is involved in a wide variety of issues and uses communications wisely to engage relevant stakeholders. What made Irene stand out were her international experience, long-term vision, authenticity, personal involvement and outstanding business results."
