Article excerpt

In past months, Informa analysts have written about how fortunate we've been to have mortgage-rate stability for many months in 2012 after a bit of a roller-coaster ride in late 2011. We remain in a relatively stable pricing environment as we head into May. We did witness a head fake from March 6 through April 23, when rates spiked for a few weeks before returning to the historic lows we've enjoyed for most weeks this year. On March 6, the 10-year Treasury yield stood at 1.94%, then spiked to 2.38% on March 19 before returning to 1.96% at the end of April. During that same period, Fannie Mae 30-year fixed 60-day required net yield (RNY) started at 3.47%, rose to 3.66% and then returned to 3.45%.
