More and more people are turning to their cellphones to handle their online activities, according to the "Spring Tracking Survey 2012" report from the Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life Project.

The report showed an upward trend in sending or receiving email and accessing the internet via cellphone: 44% of the people surveyed use their cellphones to manage email, as opposed to 42% in August 2011 and 38% in May 2011. Internet access by respondents increased from 44% (May 2011) to 48% (August 2011) to 53%.

Although cellphones are gaining in popularity for online tasks, they have yet to overtake other internet-ready tech. When asked if they access the internet on their cellphones or on other devices such as desktops, laptops, or tablet computers, 31% of respondents said they depend mostly on their cellphones, while 60% use other devices. Only 7% indicated that they use both equally, and 2% said it depends on the situation. …
