World Conference Highlights Trends in Communication

Content curation. Social media. Intranets. ROI. Integrated reporting. CSR. These are just a few of the topics that captivated attenders at the IABC World Conference in June. More than 1,300 communicators from some 40 countries came to Chicago to find out not only what their peers in the field are doing to succeed in every type of business today, but, more important, what lies ahead in our rapidly changing world.

Indeed, the theme "Vision 20/15" underscored every session, as IABC focuses on the role of the communicator now and in the near future. Attenders had multiple opportunities to share their experiences, goals and concerns throughout the conference, in small-group sessions, workshops, networking events and more.

Clearly they are embracing social media, especially Twitter, to stay in touch with one another. It seemed just about everyone carried a smartphone or tablet, tweeting, texting, emailing and Web surfing during breaks in the action. IABC hosted World Conference Connections, an online community that allowed people to comment on sessions; follow up with speakers; post helpful links, photos and videos; and keep up with conference news. The conversations continued even after the conference ended, as communicators kept sharing their insights and ideas.
