Going Global: It's Unanimous: High-Performing Companies Agree That They Will Maintain or Expand Their Global Workforces in the Coming Years

If you're part of one of the world's largest, most successful companies, chances are that your global business outlook is pretty rosy these days. According to High-Performance Global Staffing: Shifting Labor Supplies and Strategies, a new report by the Institute for Corporate Productivity (i4cp), 93 percent of the companies surveyed believe that they will maintain or significantly increase their global workforces during the next three years. A dramatic 100 percent of the high-performing organizations (HPOs) surveyed indicate the same.

The report compared HPOs' and low-performing organizations' (LPOs) responses to uncover trends in global expansion efforts. Investment in staffing infrastructure is a strong theme. Seventy-three percent of HPOs report using premium human capital management solutions, such as Taleo or SAP, as opposed to 33 percent of LPOs.

Combined management teams are another common trend in global staffing. HPOs tend to place a mixture of locals and expatriates in management positions, while LPOs depend mostly on expatriates who have been exported to countries outside of their headquarters.

Continuing this trend of diversification, the study found that HPOs are more likely to recruit technical talent from countries other than those in which the organizations are headquartered. HPOs also display wisdom in their quest to expand their staffing horizons by investing in growth economies that do not yet harbor known talent pools. These companies appear to source talent from unlikely places, and then relocate those employees to the countries where they are most needed. …
