The 2013 MTNA National Conference will be a "magical" one at the Disneyland[R] Hotel at the Disneyland[R] Resort in Anaheim, California, March 9--13. Acclaimed piano duo Anderson & Roe and the Ahn Trio will headline the evening concerts. And Rick Beyer, a popular author, documentary producer and public speaker, will give the keynote presentation. Pedagogy Saturday will feature five topics: jazz and popular piano, recreational music making, teaching those with special needs, collegiate/young professional, and advanced piano/teaching artistry. Attendees will be encouraged to mix and match ,the sessions to maximize their pre-conference experience. Other sessions by internationally known pedagogues will give attendees tools to take back to their studios. Topics pertinent to teachers in all areas will be featured throughout the conference.

Opening Session Saturday, March 9, 7:30 P.M. Ahn Trio

Born in Seoul, Korea, and educated at the Juilliard School, the members of the Ahn Trio, (Angella Ahn, violin; Maria Ahn, cello; and Lucia Ahn, piano), are constantly redefining the art and architecture of chamber music. Breathing new life into the standard pianotrio literature with commissioned works from visionary composers such as Michael Nyman, Maurice Jarre, Pat Metheny, Paul Schoenfield, Mark O'Connor, Kenji Bunch, Nikolai Kapustin and Paul Chihara, the Ahn Trio brings a new energy and excitement to the chamber music world.

The trio has been touring successfully for more than 10 years and have six albums to date. The Ahn Trio is in high demand, performing and leading master classes and workshops across the United States and around the world.

Duo Piano Recital Tuesday, March 12, 8:00 P.M. Anderson & Roe

Greg Anderson and Elizabeth Joy Roe dazzle audiences around the world as a four-hand, two-piano team. They met in 2000 at the Juilliard School, where they both earned bachelor's and master's degrees. They were granted the honor to perform on numerous prominent Juilliard events, and a live performance by the duo is even included on the "Sounds of Juilliard" CD celebrating the school's centennial year. They have toured North America and beyond, and together have appeared on MTV and NPR, the Cliburn Concert Series, the Gina Bachauer International Piano Festival and dozens of summer chamber music festivals.

Keynote Speaker Monday, March 11, 9:15 A.M. Rick Beyer

Rick Beyer is a successful author, an award winning documentary producer and an accomplished professional speaker. With a take on history that is both humorous and illuminating, he has appeared on CNN, The Discovery Channel, NPR and Fox News. His newest book is The Greatest Music Stories Never Told: 100 tales from music history to astonish, bewilder and stupefy. He has produced films for The History Channel, National Geographic, the Smithsonian Institution, Historic Mount Vernon and others. His documentary credits include The Wright Challenge, Secrets of Jamestown, The Patent Files and Timelab 2000, an acclaimed collection of 200 history minutes hosted by Sam Waterston.

Monday, March 11, 10:30 AM. Intermediate Piano Ingrid Clarfield, NCTM

Ingrid Clarfield, NCTM, a nationally recognized teacher, clinician, pianist and author, is professor of piano and coordinator of the piano department at Westminster Choir College of Rider University in Princeton, New Jersey. She has written 17 books that are published by Alfred Publishing Co., Inc. Clarfield maintains a private studio where her pre-college students have won numerous awards in state, national and international competitions resulting in performances in such venues as Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Weill Recital Hall, Kennedy Center, Merkin Concert Hall, Steinway Hall and several concert halls in Beijing. She has presented workshops, lecture-recitals and master classes in more than 100 cities across North America, including many presentations at state and national MTNA conferences and other major conferences and festivals. …
