Most people can't share enough of their lives on social media these days, according to Morrison & Foerster, LLC, host of the Socially Aware blog. To reach users on their home turf, businesses are also changing the way they interact with their clients and consumers, meeting them online. With more than 15,000 subscribers, Socially Aware, which tracks the law and business of social media, culled a number of third-party resources to compile some of the changes on the social media landscape today.

Here are just a few of the highlights:

* Social media activities now account for 18% of time that users spend online.

* The average American's engagement with social media has more than doubled in the past 6 years, from 2.7 hours each month in 2006 to 6.9 hours each month in 2011.

* The rate of Americans who have social networking profiles has more than doubled in the past 4 years, from 24% in 2008 to 56% in 2012.

* Two of the fastest growing segments in social media are men (all ages) and those in the 55-plus age group, each increasing by more than 9% from July 2010 to October 2011. …
