To mark the 25th anniversary of his book The Coming of the Cosmic Christ, the Rev. Matthew Fox is hosting Christ Path Seminar, a new three year program composed of multiple retreats looking at the Cosmic Christ, starting March 8 in Oakland, Calif .

The seminars, Fox explained in a telephone interview, are designed around an ancient but forgotten theology of the Cosmic Christ--"the pattern that connects all the atoms and galaxies of the universe; a pattern of divine love and justice that all creatures and all humans bear with them ... The Cosmic Christ lives and breathes in Jesus and in all God's children, in all the prophets of religions everywhere, in all creatures of the universe."

The Cosmic Christ theology is present in the Hebrew Scriptures, within Paul's and John's writings in the Christian Scriptures, in the works of creation-centered mystics, and in the 20th-century thoughts of French paleontologist Fr. Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, said Fox, a creation theologian who became an Episcopal priest in 1994 after his expulsion from the Catholic Dominican order.

Fox said the seminars will merge Andrew Harvey's Sacred Activism workshops with the Cosmic Christ's message of the sacredness of all beings and the imperative to bring justice and compassion to life. Harvey, an India-born scholar of the world religions, is a teacher and the author of more than 30 books ranging from Christianity to Sufism to Hinduism. He is co-director of the seminars with Fox. …
