The information industry's ever-changing environment challenges the status quo of traditional information service providers, according to GORDON MACOMBER, the new managing director of Scientific and Scholarly Research at Thomson Reuters.

"We are seeing an increase in the use of mobility, cloud-based solutions, crowd sourcing, open access and other innovative delivery and community mechanisms," says Macomber, all of which put added pressure on legacy platforms and business models.

Macomber, a veteran of Thomson Reuters, has held previous positions as senior vice president in the Thomson Reuters Legal group and as president of Thomson Gale. Prior to his tenure at the company, Macomber was CEO of Merriam-Webster, Inc.; president and CEO of NYUonline; and president of Macmillan Reference USA.

As the company's new managing director, Macomber manages the broad extent of the Scientific and Scholarly Research businesses, which include platforms for scientific inquiry, analysis, and workflow, such as Web of Knowledge, Web of Science, EndNote, ScholarOne, and InCites.
