Army National Guard Major Shawn Fulker was stationed in Afghanistan when he wanted to surprise his wife with something special. A Jacksonville, Florida, pizzeria was happy to help.

Shawn's wife, Josephine, is a lover of Mellow Mushroom pizza, so Shawn emailed Mellow Mushroom's website on Thursday. January 24, and asked whether one of the stores could deliver a pizza and $50 gift card to his wife at their home in Jacksonville.

Mellow Mushroom went above and beyond, not only fulfilling Shawn's request, but making it even more special. "We had the cook make a heart-shaped pizza, and then we stopped by the nearest Publix (supermarket) to get flowers and then we picked up balloons, just to kind of make it special," Brooke Chafee, a manager at the Jacksonville store, told ABCNews.com.

Chafee, along with another Mellow Mushroom employee, made the delivery, which included the $50 gift card, in person. They did not charge Shawn for any of it.

According to Mellow Mushroom franchise owner John Valentino, the store was happy to do it. "Of course we weren't going to charge him for anything," Valentino told ABC. "Him being a serviceman and his wife being home. ... Hopefully in her husband's absence we were able to help her have a great birthday while he's over in Afghanistan serving our country."

The delivery arrived at the Fulker home just as Josephine had finished Skyping with her husband.

Josephine recalls, "I don't know their names exactly, but they had a pizza and a big butterfly balloon and a vase of flowers with a gift card for $50 and they told me that it was from my husband. …
