Big and Bold Ways to Support the ROM: A Sensational Dress Stitches Together a Fashion and Philanthropic Community

It's not often you see Pre-Columbian fashions next to last season's haute couture runway pieces, but the ROM's BIG exhibition offers just that. This incredible installation features outstanding items from our internationally renowned collection of textiles and costumes--each one is remarkable for its size, historical importance, price tag, or for being created by a big-name designer.

In honour of this stunning new exhibit at the ROM, we're telling some of the remarkable stories of our donors and volunteers who have a fierce love of fashion and for whom generous giving is always in style. We're also shining a spotlight on the amazing curatorial talent working behind the scenes in the Patricia Harris Gallery of Textiles & Costume.

Many of our Royal Patrons' Circle (RPC) and Young Patrons' Circle (YPC) Members joined us for an exclusive sneak peek of BIG on October 30, 2012, and had a wonderful opportunity to chat with the star curators behind the exhibition. It was also a chance to rub shoulders and drink cocktails with industry insiders from the fashion world, many of whom showed up in fine feathers on the heels of Toronto's Fashion Week.

We are constantly looking for ways to give our donors, sponsors, and Patrons magical, behind-the-scenes experiences at the Museum. Dr. Alexandra Palmer, Nora E. Vaughan Fashion Costume Curator, was happy to share a BIG moment with Patricia Harris, a long-time friend and tremendous supporter of the ROM. Patricia joined Dr. Palmer and her team of experts for an intimate unveiling of the Christian Dior couture gown at the Museum, as you'll read on page 44. …
