The 'war against terror' has had an impact on many lives, both adults and children, and this impact knows no boundaries. These conflicts are 'managed' so cleverly by governments and the media and it is not always easy to see the other side of the problem. The sight of cheering crowds can convince us of the 'rightness' of the cause. What we don't see is the confusion and anger of people who want change but resent seeing foreign soldiers on their streets, armed with weapons and dictating their lives. Books like The Kite Runner bring alive the horrors for those living in a war-torn society and make us confront the ethical issues involved with interfering with the internal politics of a sovereign state.
