This was my first encounter with Caroline Green's writing and it was not a disappointment. First impressions of the cover made me think I was about to read yet another vaguely supernatural tale of love and intrigue but this would be quite wrong. We jump straight into an apparently life-threatening situation which sets up a background for the reader to reprise much later in the story.

A very ordinary and supportive family life has not been a protection against Tara's ability to 'see' what has happened to things that have gone missing. In her previous home, this gift is used to try to locate a missing toddler but we soon learn that the official view was that this young girl was 'wasting police time'. So we meet Tara as she attempts to make the most of being displaced from the school and town where she grew up and to come to terms with the hurt and rejection of a past relationship. …
