Scholarship Open to APHA Members Who Enroll in Online MPH Program

APHA MEMBERS are eligible for a scholarship offered through the George Washington University's new online MPH program.

APHA members accepted into the MPH@GW program, offered through the university's School of Public Health and Health Services, are open to receive a one-time $7,500 scholarship, said Annette Ferebee, MPH, director of APHA's Center for Professional Development.

The university's new online MPH program, which is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health, kicked off classes this summer. Courses for the program, which can be completed in two years as a full-time student and four as a part-time student, begin in June, September, January and March.

While the new program is just one of many nationwide to offer an MPH degree via the Internet, it is the first to partner with APHA on a scholarship.

"By partnering with APHA, the oldest organization of public health professionals, we hope to be able to connect more students with education and training that will help them become better practitioners, as well as support their professional development and advancement," said Julie DeLoia, PhD, associate dean for academic affairs at the George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services.

The scholarship and program will expand education options for people interested in public health who lack the time to take the classes in person, Ferebee said.

"Online education or distance-based education is becoming the norm," Ferebee said. "We're glad to partner with a school of public health to expand educational opportunities for our members and those interested in a career in public health. …
