Description: Lockheed Martin's Engineers in the Classroom program provides STEM outreach to kindergarten through Grade 12 classrooms. A simple online request form is used to request one of over 200 volunteer engineers trained to lead students in career presentation and hands-on activity. A visit lasts 45-60 minutes and can be tailored to meet specific classroom needs.

Description: This app for iPad by Micro-Empowering promotes a "learn by doing" approach to education. Curious students are introduced to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics concepts through a series of eight investigations to do at home. Each activity includes a list of materials that students use to build and test STEM concepts in the real world while engaging in interactive digital learning. Problem-based investigations include the water wheel, electromagnetism, automatic sorting, and solar oven to name a few. While the app description indicates that it is for middle school students, the activities are also appropriate for elementary students in upper grades.


Lowe's Toolbox for Education Grant Program

Description: Now in its 9th year, this grant program from the Lowe's Charitable and Education Foundation is dedicated to building better schools and communities. To apply for a Lowe's Toolbox for Education Grant, the applicant must be a parent group (PTO, PTA, etc.) associated with a K-12 public or nonpublic school. Preference is given to requests that have a permanent impact, such as a facility enhancement, landscaping, or clean up project. …
