PWRDF's CIDA Program: Expanding Our Capacity

PWRDF has three programs, funded in conjunction with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), in five countries around the world. Thanks to the 3:1 match by CIDA, PWRDF has been able to work with partners in Bangladesh, Burundi, Mozambique, South Africa and Tanzania to achieve far more than it could have on its own.

In Bangladesh, PWRDF is working with UBINIG, a long-term partner, through the Muskoka Initiative to improve maternal and child health by improving access to basic health services. 759 midwives active in 130 villages will benefit from training, access to bicycle and boat ambulances, as well as increased coordination of health services. Workshops for mothers on maternal and child health, gender rights, and nutrition are being held throughout the region, which will lead to better health and nutrition in families.

PWRDF's second CIDA-funded program is also focused on maternal and child health, this time in Burundi, Mozambique and Tanzania. 194 villages are part of this project, which has begun constructing wells, mothers-in-waiting houses, and clinics, training community health workers. …
