CA Home Sales in December Down 12.1 Percent from Year Ago

San Diego-based DataQuick reported that the number of new and resold homes and condos in December totaled an estimated 34,949. That was down 12.1 percent from December 2012, when 39,760 sales were reported. The new total number of sales of homes in December was the lowest for a December since 2007, according to DataQuick.

Yet December's home sales in the state were up 4.5 percent from the November total of 33,429.

The company reported that December sales in California have varied from a low of 25,585 in 2007 to a high of 66,503 in 2003. The average number of sales in California during the month of December since 1988, when the company first started gathering these statistics, is 43,547.

DataQuick noted that California home sales haven't been above their average for any given month of the year in more than seven years.

The new findings show that the median price paid for a home in California in December was $365,000. …
