Our 90th issue's other cover star. Young Thug, sparked controvery on the internet when, leading up to the magazine's release, he Instagrammed a picture of himself in a leopard-print dress. The FADER editor Alex Frank's essay, "Young Thug in a Dress Cam'ron in Pink," which posited Thug as a "suburban sprawl 21st-century David Bowie," spawned a boisterous conversation on gender-bending in rap music.

This bullshit isn't courageous. Courageous is him coming out the closet and saying accept me as a gay rapper. Like dude said, this is a pathetic cry for attention from a rapper who has the nerve to call himself "Young Thug."



I don't see the big deal. He isn't hurting anyone and he isn't forcing other men to wear women's clothing. …
