THE ASSOCIATION FOR CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION (ACTE) is a diverse organization: not many associations can boast both chefs and robotics engineers among their members. Yet for all our diversity, one important common denominator unites us all: our commitment to provide young people with career and life skills. An effective 21st-century CTE educator needs to be able to offer students the skills they need to survive in a competitive economy.

In a high-tech world with so much technological stimuli, this task isn't often easy. Students are drowning in electronic media. An effective classroom strategy should consider using gamification and digital media to get students to channel their digital energies into their own education. E-connect presents you with four examples of how online games arc being used to offer students the career and life skills they need.

Financial Football

The National Football League teamed up with the credit card company Visa to help teach students financial literacy with the web game "Financial Foot ball. Financial Football is an interactive game that teaches teams of young people money-management skills. These teams gain yards and score touchdowns by answering questions about finance. This game is great for teaching students financial principles, as well as reinforcing math skills.
